Lawsuit on Legislators’ Pay Freeze Delayed till September 18
What appears to be a striking blow to Illinois legislators who hoped to have their paychecks reinstated in August will have to wait until at least mid-to late-September on any court action. Cook County Circuit Judge Neil Cohen has set oral arguments for September 18 without granting a preliminary injunction.

Some have speculated that the Governor’s action to veto legislators’ salaries has placed a hold on public pension reform; however, the special conference committee is still formulating a proposal and is down to a number of “tweaks” to their proposal awaiting actuarial data. The question is, once the conference committee releases its proposal, how quickly the legislative leaders in the House and Senate will push the legislation through their perspective chambers while the Governor’s veto of legislators’ salary goes unaddressed.
