Limited Seats Remain for
2017 State of the City Address
State of the City
Chamber, Library to Host Candidate Open Houses
Informal meet-and-greets for voters to get to know mayoral and aldermanic candidates vying for seats in the April 4 election are set for 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 27 and March 29 at the Richard and Gina Santori Public Library of Aurora, 101 S. River St.

The two candidates for mayor, Richard E. Guzman and Richard C. Irvin, will speak with voters in a casual setting on Monday, March 27, in the Dunham Atrium. Alderman-at-large candidates Matt Harrington and Robert J. O’Connor, and Ward 10 alderman candidates Keith Bradley, Judd Lofchie, and Robert H. Paolicchi, will greet the public on Wednesday, March 29, also in the Dunham Atrium.

In addition, an open house is scheduled for Monday, March 20, at the library for Fox Valley Park District candidates. This is the first election for park district board and involves two contested races.

Here are the candidates who filed petitions, according to their District jurisdiction; two candidates will be elected from each District, with one at-large representative:

1st District: Chuck Anderson, Aurora; Matt Hicks, Jr., Aurora.

2nd District: LuAnne Kelsey, Montgomery; Beth Waller, Montgomery; Jerry Butler, Aurora; Mary Anne Cummings, Aurora.

3rd District: Giovanni Santana, Aurora; Holly Scholz, Aurora; Roger Schnorr, Aurora; Cynthia G. Penne, Aurora.

At-Large: Alexander G. Alexandrou, Aurora.

Incumbent city council members in Wards 2, 4, 7 and 9 are running unopposed. Voters will cast a vote for one at-large alderman on their April 4 ballot as mayoral candidate Irvin’s seat is not up for reelection this year. Should Irvin win the election, he would appoint his successor. Should Guzman win, Irvin will remain at at-large alderman.

“Today’s libraries are sites for civic engagement,” said Daisy Porter-Reynolds, executive director of Aurora Public Library. “I’m happy we can provide these opportunities for Aurora residents to speak with the candidates and make informed decisions ahead of election day.”

Refreshments will be served. Call (630) 264-4125 for information.

These meet-and-greets are sponsored by Aurora Public Library, the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Fox Valley PAC.
